When you visit the scrapbook on our site, you can click on each image, and they will enlarge. It is a great improvement over the old image gallery. We thought the word "scrapbook" was a little more fitting too. The picture frames were scanned in from some of our family photographs.

New Sign

I just finished our new sign. We have been sort of making do with a sign for each of the shows that we have been at. Coming up with a good sign that is at a good height, readable, and doesn't take up much floor space... and oh yeah, doesn't tip over is a challenge. I purchased a bird cage stand for 10 bucks... sold the cage that came with it for $8... and will hang this oval sign in the space where the bird cage was.

It's at a good height and the base is heavy enough that it won't tip over. So we can place it anywhere in our booth... and done just in time for the Mom Shop 2 tomorrow.

The Portland based Mamapreneurs are hosting another Mom Shop. The first one was two years ago and was a great success. This time around we need more space. This show is bigger with many different types of products and services being offered by entrepreneurial mom's. There will also be a fashion show... giving us apparel minded mom's a chance to show off our goods.

The CPSIA and Small Business

In August of last year, Congress passed bill HR4040--the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). This bill is aimed at protecting our children from toys containing lead and phthalates and addressing other safety issues. However, parts of this bill will directly effect all small handmade toy makers, designers and store owners in such a way that many may not have the means to continue operating.

The CPSIA now requires all children's products, including natural handmade toys and clothing to be tested by a third party lab, often at a cost of up to $4,000 per item. That could cost a small company more than $20,000 a season. That could easily put many small companies out of business.

The CPSIA simply forgot to exclude the class of children's goods that have earned and kept the public's trust: toys, clothes, and accessories made mainly by small businesses in the US, Canada, and Europe. This must be amended before it's too late.

We strongly urge Congress to amend the current legislation to exclude small businesses from this exorbitant type of testing, similar to the exemptions granted by the FDA for small producers under the food labeling laws.

It is our small businesses that have worked hard to maintain the trust of consumers by ensuring handmade toys, clothing and accessories are safe. It is unfair to punish the businesses who truly are the backbone of our country and who have been committed to producing safe toys and crafts for the consumer.

Please help us and our fellow small business owners by contacting your congressmen and requesting them to clarify the CPSIA and exempt small businesses from the third party testing in the US.

Our New Tooth Fairy Pillow Works!

My son just lost his front tooth in a timely manner to test our latest product: The Tooth Fairy Pillow. We are pleased to announce that the tooth fairy did visit and left two coins in the corner pocket in place of the tooth.

The pillows include the following poem, written by our father, which my son enjoyed hearing the night he placed his tooth in the pillow:

Place your tooth here at close of day,
In this pocket tucked away

And with the coming of the dawn
You can be sure it will be gone.

On tiny wings, adept at flight,
A fairy will come in the night

And when the sun next shows its face
A coin or two will take its place.

We are so excited! We have a tiny mention in a listing for Cassis in Boise, ID. This was featured in the Treasure Magazine that comes in the Idaho Statesman. It is small, but for us, it is the first time we have been listed in a publication.

We have the boys shirts up on the site for sale. They are adorable and very manly.

... and for your tea party needs, we have also added some new linen sets...

Please note that the china tea set is not for sale. We do have a couple of vintage tea sets that we take with us to shows, but we haven't figured out yet, how to package them thoroughly for shipment. It would be a shame for one to arrive in pieces and shards. We'll keep you posted on that for the future.

We've been busily working on a new line with wonderful new fabrics for Fall 2008. We are trying to get ourselves on a retail timeline and start expanding beyond Portland and Boise. We do have a few pieces coming for late spring/summer. One is our new Boys Short Sleeve Shirt.

.... in Portland, OR at SE 29th and Belmont. Phoebe has a beautiful collection of things for little boys and girls. Many products are by local designers. They also carry the amazing See Kai Run shoes.

Cassis
.... in Boise, ID downtown on W Idaho Street. Molly's store is so charming with many small product lines and accessories. She also hand paints her gift boxes!

Our Secret Cottage
... in Eagle, ID. Melissa has a lovely two floor store. The first floor features gifts and home accents and upstairs are all the baby and children's clothing.

Trunk Show

Mister Judy will be at the Pointe Day Spa Soiree and Trunk Show this evening at the Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club in Hillsboro, Oregon. The admission is $23 per person or $40 per pair. The cost of admission benefits the American Heart Association and includes the fashion show, hors d'oeuvres, and a gift bag. Please join us for a fun evening of fashion and shopping benefitting a wonderful cause. Mister Judy will have the spring line available for purchase and a few gift sets just in time for Valentine's Day for the little ones.

Things are Moving Fast

All raw goods have arrived and are in process! We have had some fabric sourcing scares and were unable to acquire any of the little globe fabric for garments. We have made some substitutions, and the line still looks great! Our last fabric to arrive is this beautiful brown with pink marigolds...

I dyed all of our tee shirts Monday and Tuesday night and dropped them with the screenprinter yesterday. We will have ivory and chocolate brown tees. They will be printed with our logo...

Wendy just bought her picture frames for our framed vintage playing cards and German cherubs yesterday.
All of our packaging has arrived- bags, tissue, rubber stamps, and ribbon from Midori ribbon. And our woven labels arrived yesterday morning- I feel so official now.

Update on the progress

We are making more progress with the line and are getting very excited. Our fabrics look fantastic and are a great mix of vintage and whimsy. The line will feature several pieces of clothing, some aprons, blankets, and other soft good accessories as well as small quilts. I've attached a picture of our fabrics and a quilt in its early stages.
